Scientific Background : NEK10 (NIMA Related Kinase 10) is a serine/threonine kinase that is involved in the regulation of the G2/M checkpoint in mitosis. It has unique structure with central catalytic kinase domain flanked by two large regulatory domains (1). NEK10 acts as a positive regulator of ERK1/2 in response to UV irradiation. In mitochondria, NEK10 interacts with GLUD1 and citrate synthase and plays a role in maintaining mitochondrial homeostasis (2). NEK10 also contributes to cilium formation through interaction with PKA and PCM1 and participating in a cAMP dependent pathway [3]. Mutations in NEK10 have been reported in lung cancer and breast cancer (2).
