Scientific Background :AXIN2 plays an important role in the regulation of the stability of beta-catenin in the Wnt signaling pathway and Axin2-expressing cells themselves produce Wnt signals as well as long-range secreted Wnt inhibitors, suggesting an autocrine mechanism of stem cell self-renewal (1). AXIN2 is highly expressed in thymus, prostate, testis, ovary, and small intestine. The AXIN2 gene has been mapped to 17q23-q24, a region that shows frequent loss of heterozygosity in breast cancer, neuroblastoma, and other tumors. AXIN2 as a gene that is responsible for hereditary colorectal cancer and tooth agenesis that may be an indicator of cancer susceptibility (2).
