Scientific Background : CDK12 forms a protein complex with cyclin K and this complex acts at the level of RNA polymerase II (RNAPII) to regulate expression of long complex genes, several of which play a role in DNA maintenance and repair. CDK12 is highly expressed in adult liver, kidney, testis, ovary, spinal cord and within specific adult brain regions with the highest expression being detected in cerebellum and caudate nucleus (1). CYCK-CDK12 and CYCK-CDK13 complexes show unique function with the CYCK-CDK12 playing a role in maintenance of genomic stability (2).
