Scientific Background : Ubiquitin specific protease 10 (USP10) is a member of the ubiquitin specific protease family of cysteine proteases. It is ubiquitously expressed in many cell lines and knock out of USP10 in mice results in bone marrow failure and death within one year. (1) USP 10 acts as an antistress under conditions such as oxidative stress, heat shock and viral infection. (2) It has been associated with cancer and known to stabilize the tumor suppressor p53 and SIRT6. (3) USP10 also inhibits ubiquitinated protein-induced apoptosis by interacting with ubiquitin receptor p62 and promoting aggresome formation thereby cooperatively inhibiting apoptosis. (1)
