Scientific Background :High-temperature requirement factor A3 (HTRA3) is a member of the HTRA family of serine proteases that was initially identified in E. coli by two phenotypes of null mutants that were unable to grow at elevated temperatures. HTRA3 was discovered initially as a pregnancy-related serine protease (PRSP) identified by DDPCR (Differential Display Polymerase Chain Reaction) to be differentially expressed between implantation and interimplantation sites in the mouse uterus. A reduction of HTRA3 mRNA expression in ovarian cancer suggested that HTRA3 may act as a tumor suppressor.
