Description :Recombinant Human EGF was expressed in E. coli cells.

Species :Human

Expression System:E.coli

Genbank Number :P01133

Storage, Stability and Shipping :The lyophilized protein is stable for at least one year from date of receipt at -70oC. Upon reconstitution, this cytokine can be stored in working aliquots at 2o - 8oC for one month, or at -20oC for six months, with a carrier protein without detectable loss of activity. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.

Applications :Cell Assay

Endotoxin Level :<1.0 EU/μg of recombinant protein as determined by the LAL method.

Molecular Weight :6.5 kDa

Gene Aliases :Urogastrone, EGF, Recombinant Human Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF).

Reconstitution Protocol :A quick spin of the vial followed by reconstitution in sterile distilled water to a concentration not less than 0.1 mg/mL. This solution can then be diluted into other buffers.

Scientific Background :Epidermal growth factor (EGF) is a small mitogenic protein that is thought to be involved in mechanisms such as normal cell growth, inhibition of gastric acid secretion, oncogenesis and wound healing. EGF shares strong sequential and functional homology with the type-alpha transforming growth factor, which is a competitor for EGF receptor sites. EGF signals through a receptor known as c-erbB, which is a class I tyrosine kinase receptor. The EGF receptor is expressed in almost all types of tissues with the exception of the parietal endoderm, mature skeletal muscles and hematopoietic tissue. Recombinant Human EGF is a globular protein that displays the EGF-like domain; characterized by three intra-molecular disulfide bonds that are formed by six similarly spaced conserved cysteine residues. Mature human EGF shares 70% amino acid sequence identity with its counterparts from mouse and rat.

Sample Cell Assay Data :The ED50 as determined by a cell proliferation assay using 3T3 cells was <1ng/ml.

Purity :Recombinant Human EGF resolved on a 17% SDS-PAGE gel under reducing conditions and stained with Coomassie Brilliant Blue G-250.
